Nigeria ended their 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign with a 3-0 defeat by Germany, going out of the tournament with barely a whimper after just one win in four games.
Despite progressing to the knockout stage for the first time in 20 years, the Super Falcons were generally a poor side overall and deserved to be beaten.
Their football was tardy, riddled with errors, and mostly uncoordinated in a performances that has left way too many questions and not enough answers.

USWNT defenders say that the team aren’t thinking about their pay discrimination suit while they’re riding high in France.

When Vincent Enyeama retired abruptly in 2015, his place was taken by second-choice Carl Ikeme. Less than two years later, Ikeme called time on his career after being diagnosed with leukaemia. Nigeria striker Francisca Ordega is one of a rare group of Africans who have played in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the US, but says she opted to move to China for the money.
Along with Ordega, the likes of South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana and Linda Motlhalo, both of whom played for the Houston Dash last season, have chosen to leave the world’s most competitive league for far-away riches.
With the NWSL paying fairly low salaries compared to Europe and Asia, Ordega says she had no real…
