Michy Batshuayi scored twice as Chelsea made short work of Grimsby Town in a 7-1 demolition of their League Two opponents in the Carabao Cup third round at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Ross Barkley scored in the fourth minute, Batshuayi struck his first in the seventh and Pedro added a penalty kick to give Chelsea a 3-1 lead at the break.

VAR ‘changes atmosphere’ at matches – Lampard

After losing 2-1 to Liverpool, ESPN FC’s Craig Burley says Chelsea’s biggest problem so far this season is finding the back of the net.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said that Video Assistant Referee (VAR) “changes the atmosphere” of matches after his side saw a goal disallowed in their 2-1 loss to league leaders Liverpool on Sunday. 

Down early against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, the Blues initally thought they had an equaliser from Cesar Azpilicueta was ruled out by VAR after Mason Mount was adjudged to be offside in the build-up.

Tammy Abraham was a menace up front but Chelsea fell short in their bid to end Liverpool’s winning run in the Premier League.

Chelsea are still yet to win at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard following another defeat on home soil. League leaders Liverpool left west London with all three points in a 2-1 win though but the Blues did have a real go after a rallying second-half performance.
