Salif Sane is moving from Hannover to Schalke.
Schalke will sign Senegalese defender Salif Sane from Hannover on a four-year contract at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old has activated an opt-out clause in his deal with Hannover, which was set to run until June 2020, to make the move to Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke’s director of sport Christian Heidel told his club’s official website: “With Salif Sane we have found a flexible defensive player who knows the Bundesliga. We are happy he has chosen Schalke.”

Michy Batshuayi’s brilliant first-half strike was enough for Borussia Dortmund to defeat visiting Hannover 1-0 and consolidate third place in the Bundesliga.
Dortmund made the better start as they looked to make a statement following their disappointing Europa League exit to Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday.
Batshuayi scored in the 24th minute, running toward Andre Schuerrle’s corner to volley the ball inside the far post with his heel.
The Belgium international should have scored another 10 minutes…

Chris Gloster will initially play for the under-19s.
Hannover have signed U.S. youth international Chris Gloster, who had previously had a trial with Schalke, from New York Red Bulls.
Gloster, 17, who started at left-back for the U.S. at the Under-17 World Cup last year, will join Hannover next season and will initially play for the club’s under-19s side.
“We expect a lot from him, also with a view to the senior team,” Michael Tarnat, the head of Hannover’s academy, told the club’s official website.
“He made a good impression during his two-week trial…

Uffe Bech’s lawyer said he was ‘attacked by half-drunk Schalke fan.’
Uffe Bech has appealed against a €50,000 penalty order for biting a Schalke supporter when he was with Hannover in August.
Bech, 25, was given the penalty order by Hannover district court last month after the incident, which happened in the VIP section of the Niedersachsenstadion.
He was charged with and fined for actual bodily harm but has appealed, saying he acted in self-defence.
“The player was sitting down when he was attacked from behind by a half-drunk Schalke fan,” Dr. Joachim Rain,…

Leon Balogun was one of the targets for the racist abuse.
Hannover have been fined €20,000 after Mainz players Leon Balogun and Anthony Ujah were racially abused during a Bundesliga match last month.
The German FA (DFB) ruled on Thursday that Hannover would be fined for “unsporting behaviour of their fans” for incidents at the match on Jan. 13.
The DFB said on their website that “a group of seven to 12 persons racially abused, over large parts of the second half, the two Mainz players Leon Balogun and Anthony Ujah, who were warming up near the goalline.”

Martin Kind’s decision to withdraw his application for full control at Hannover may prove tactical.

On Saturday afternoon, the noise will be back at the HDI-Arena. After weeks of offering only a token level of support for their own team, Hannover 96 ultra groups have agreed to once again cheer on the players for the home game against SC Freiburg.

The self-imposed silence had been the fans’ way of protesting the takeover bid of 96 chairman Martin Kind. But the owner of a hearing aid firm and long-time benefactor of the Lower Saxony club put his application to take formal control of the side on…

Steve Cherundolo has parted ways with Hannover after 19 years.
Former United States national team defender Steve Cherundolo has left his role at Hannover to join the coaching staff at Stuttgart.

Cherundolo had been with Hannover since joining as a player in 1999 and made 370 league appearances before retiring in 2014.

He stayed on after his playing days and most recently coached Hannover’s under-17 team, but moves on to Stuttgart as one of two top assistants under new head coach Tayfun Korkut.

Cherundolo previously worked with Korkut when the Turkey international…

Leon Balogun in action for Mainz.
The German FA (DFB) has opened an investigation after Mainz players Leon Balogun and Anthony Ujah said they were racially abused by Hannover 96 fans ahead of last Saturday’s Bundesliga match.
On Tuesday, the DFB told ESPN FC it had begun proceedings. Under its rules, the club could face a fine or even a stadium closure, but the governing body said “possible legal consequences are pure speculation at this stage.”
Hannover, Balogun and Ujah have been asked to provide written statements, and after…
