MOSCOW — Benedikt Howedes ended a long spell with his boyhood club Schalke when he joined Lokomotiv Moscow on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old defender, who spent last season on loan at Juventus, has signed a four-year contract with the Russian champion.
“We wish him all the best in the new sporting chapter of his career at Lokomotiv Moscow,” said Schalke’s sporting director Christian Heidel.

MOSCOW — Lokomotiv Moscow have won the Russian Premier League for the first time in 14 years.
Lokomotiv beat Zenit St. Petersburg 1-0 on Saturday after Portuguese forward Eder knocked in Vladislav Ignatyev’s cross in the 87th minute.
The win lifted Lokomotiv seven points clear in the standings. They can’t be caught by Spartak Moscow or CSKA Moscow, who each have two games remaining.
