Erick Mombaerts has been confirmed as Melbourne City’s new manager.
Melbourne City announced experienced French mentor Erick Mombaerts as the A-League club’s new head coach on Thursday, filling the vacancy left by Englishman Warren Joyce’s departure.
Among Mombaerts list of career achievements is stints in charge of France’s under-18s and under-21s, where he coached 2018 World Cup winners Raphael Varane and Antoine Griezmann.

Melbourne City have parted ways with coach Warren Joyce and will continue their long battle to realise their A-League ambitions without the Englishman, after declining to extend his two-year stint as senior coach.
Joyce leaves City after a tumultuous season — one of on-field underachievement given the club’s alignment with Premier League giants Manchester City and the deep pockets of their Abu Dhabi-based owners.
City’s 2018-19 campaign ended brutally on Sunday night as Adelaide United’s Ben Halloran…

Another big name could be set to join the exodus of experienced A-League players at season’s end, with Melbourne City’s Eugene Galekovic still mulling over his playing future.
Unlike Matt McKay, Carl Valeri, Alex Brosque, Mark Bridge and Brendon Santalab — to name a few of this season’s vintage crop of retirements — Galekovic is yet to make up his mind.
“My focus hasn’t been on my future it’s been on just trying to win a trophy,” he said.
That means Sunday’s elimination final clash with Adelaide…

We’re at the end before the end of the A-League season. This time of the year always brings up the discussion of teams and players of the year. Who was better, or who is the best?
Attempting to give a definitive assessment in a game of perspective and subjectivity is almost like a dog chasing its tail. You will never succeed in your aim, but doing so is as much fun as it is futile or stupid.
