Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis has fined his players for their disappointing results.
Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis has fined his players €400,000 and ordered some of them to go on holiday until the end of the season after a draw left the defending Greek Superleague champions third in the table.
Marinakis, who also owns Nottingham Forest, said he will call up players from the club’s under-20 squad for the final four games following the 1-1 draw against Levadiakos on Saturday.

Sporting Gijon have been ordered to pay Barcelona €1.2 million over the sale of defender Alberto Botia to Sevilla in 2012 by a Spanish court.

PIRAEUS, Greece — Scores of football fans clashed with police in the Greek port city of Piraeus, near Athens, on Wednesday as they tried to disrupt a speech given by the country’s finance minister.
Police fired tear gas to disperse the youths, who threw rocks and set fire to trash bins. The violence broke out a day after the government ended a two-week suspension of the Greek football league after saying it had received a commitment from clubs to crack down on violence.

Vangelis Marinakis is fighting back against drug charges.
Olympiakos and Nottingham Forest owner Vangelis Marinakis says drug-trafficking charges against him are part of a Greek government-led “conspiracy” to silence dissent.
A prosecutor on Friday charged Marinakis, also a ship and media owner, for engaging in drug-related criminal activity. The charges stem from the 2014 seizure in the Greek port of Piraeus of a tanker carrying 2.1 tons of heroin.

The Newcastle Jets have continued their stellar form at Suncorp stadium defeating the Brisbane Roar 1-0. Brisbane A-League defender Avraam Papadopoulos has been handed a suspended two-and-a-half year jail sentence by a Greek court for illegally betting on matches.
Agence France-Presse reports Papadopoulos was one of 58 people punished by the three-member Court of Appeal in Athens for their roles in the “Koriopolis” match-fixing scandal in 2011.

The Greek Superleague game between leaders PAOK Salonika and Olympiakos was abandoned on Sunday before kickoff after Olympiakos coach Oscar Garcia was hit by an object thrown from the crowd.
The former Watford boss was struck in the face, reportedly by a toilet roll, and the teams left the field as he received medical attention before being taken to hospital.

Kevin Mirallas joined Everton from Olympiakos six years ago.
Olympiakos have re-signed Kevin Mirallas from Everton on loan until the end of the season, the clubs confirmed on Sunday.
Mirallas, 30, joined Everton from the Greek side in 2012 for a reported £6 million fee and has gone on to make 151 Premier League appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals.
The Belgium international, though, has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Sam Allardyce, making his last appearance in a Europa League match against Apollon Limassol on Dec. 7.
