Despite Manchester City’s strong run of form, ESPN FC’s Paul Mariner explains why Liverpool remain his favourites to win the Premier League title.
Jurgen Klopp has said Dejan Lovren faces a “tight race” to be fit for the first leg of Liverpool’s round-of-16 Champions League tie against Bayern Munich at Anfield next Tuesday.
Lovren’s potential absence means Klopp could have a selection headache in central defence, with Virgil van Dijk suspended for the visit of the Bundesliga champions.
Neither Lovren nor Joe Gomez travelled to Spain for Liverpool’s warm-weather training camp this week as they continue their recoveries.

ESPN FC’s Steve Nicol and the FC crew discuss the ‘antsy’ atmosphere at Anfield and the pressure associated with a tight Premier League title race.

Jurgen Klopp says from a club point of view, winning the Premier League or finishing top four financially benefits the club more than just winning silverware.
Liverpool have said defender Joe Gomez will undergo more surgery to help his recovery from a lower leg fracture.
Gomez has been absent since December and was initially expected to be sidelined for six weeks.
However, the 21-year-old’s recovery has been more complicated than thought and he will have further surgery to aid his rehabilitation.
“The club’s medical staff believe he will benefit from a further procedure to enable a more complete recovery,” a statement on Liverpool’s website said.
