South Korea made a strong start to the Asia Cup with a win over the Philippines in Group C.

After an opening Asia Cup defeat to Jordan, Australia looked much more comfortable in a 3-0 win against Palestine.

Uzbekistan prevailed 2-1 over Oman in their 2019 AFC Asian Cup opener courtesy of Eldor Shomurodov’s late winner.

Ritsu Doan added to Yuya Osaka’s two goals to ensure Asian Cup favourites Japan kicked off their tournament with a 3-2 win.

Ali Adnan sealed a 3-2 win for Iraq over Vietnam in the Asian Cup in dramatic fashion, by netting a sublime 90th minute free-kick.

There were three parts to the Philippines plan of action at the Asian Cup.
The first was to not lose to South Korea by many. The second was to take a point from China. The third was to defeat the Kyrgyz Republic in the final Group C showdown. With four of the six third-placed teams going through to the last 16, that would almost certainly be enough. As it stands, three points may well do.

Kazuyoshi Miura is the oldest professional player to have scored a goal.
Kazuyoshi Miura, who was playing in the J-League when Gary Lineker and Zico were in Japan, has signed a new one-year contract with Yokohama FC at the age of 51.
Former Japan international forward Miura will play for the second-tier club throughout the 2019 season, the J-League announced.
“I updated the contract for the 2019 season,” Miura said after signing the deal. “Thanks to everyone who always supports me.”
