A growing number of families of footballers affected by dementia have expressed their willingness to donate the brains of their loved ones to assist research after their death.
The Jeff Astle Foundation says it has been contacted by the families of more than 300 former players, including an increasing number ready to contribute to the creation of a “bank” of donated brains to help investigate the link between football and dementia.

Ched Evans is back with Sheffield United, five years after being released by the club.
Sheffield United have announced that they have re-signed striker Ched Evans from Chesterfield on a three-year deal.
Evans was released by United in the summer of 2012 after being found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman and sentenced to five years in prison.
That conviction was quashed and, at a retrial last year, Evans was found not guilty.

Gboly Ariyibi was born in the United States but received his football education in England.

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of U.S. under-23 international Gboly Ariyibi from Chesterfield for an undisclosed fee.
Ariyibi, 22, has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at the City Ground and was finally confirmed as the Championship club’s fourth signing of deadline day on Wednesday morning.
Ariyibi wrote on his Twitter account: “So happy to be joining such a great and historical club like @NFFC can’t wait to get going!”

Ched Evans will be under contract for another 12 months at Chesterfield.
Chesterfield striker Ched Evans has signed a 12-month contract extension, the League One club have announced.
The Welsh forward, who joined the Spireites ahead of the start of the current season, is now set to stay at the Proact Stadium until the summer of 2018.
