Craig Burley and Alejandro Moreno examine Chelsea’s dilemma: splashing for Gonzalo Higuain in January or pursuing a younger striker in the summer.

The guys respond to your tweets about Craig Burley’s coal, Christmas ideas for Steve Nicol, Julien Laurens’ resemblance to Kevin Kratz and more.

The transfer window opens on January 1 and offers football clubs everywhere a little retail therapy. Though many teams in the Premier League might be panic-buying, instead.

Everyone is looking for the same thing, too: players who can turn contenders into champions and save doomed teams from sinking without trace. No pressure, then. Finding them in the crowded and chaotic January market is quite another thing, too, because by this stage of the season, you are probably getting someone another…

Danny Ings has described Mohamed Salah as ‘a good friend’ and said their bet on goals is ‘a bit of a laugh’.
Danny Ings has revealed he has entered into an ambitious wager with former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah over which player will end the season with the most goals to their name.
Salah amassed 44 goals in just 52 appearances for the Reds in 2017-18, while Ings scored just one goal for the club in a frustrating, injury-blighted campaign.
However, the latter has since left Anfield on loan to return to boyhood club Southampton, where he has hit the ground running with two goals in his first four…

Southampton manager Mark Hughes will make a late decision on whether to include striker Danny Ings in his squad for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace.
Ings returned to his boyhood club earlier this month on a season-long loan from Liverpool before a permanent move next year.
He has featured in all three of Southampton’s league games this season, scoring against Everton, but sat out Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Brighton and Hove Albion in the League Cup with a foot problem.
“We’ve got a slight…

Stoke City picked up a valuable point against an underwhelming Liverpool in a tepid affair, at Anfield.

Stoke City picked up a valuable point against an underwhelming Liverpool in a tepid affair, at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp provides an injury update for Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez and Sadio Mane ahead of their Champions League semifinal second leg.

Jurgen Klopp discusses how Stoke’s defensive posture frustrated Liverpool, the knock Trent Alexander-Arnold sustained and more.
Liverpool followed up their spectacular win over Roma in midweek with a damp squib of a performance against the Premier League’s second-bottom team. Mohamed Salah inexplicably missed a glorious early chance, Danny Ings had a goal disallowed for offside and the frustrated Reds were also denied a clear late penalty on.
Positives
It’s another point closer to Champions League qualification; a top-four spot will be secured by avoiding defeat at Chelsea next week or by beating Brighton at home on the…

Mohamed Salah’s 31st Premier League goal of the season wasn’t enough for Liverpool as West Brom fought back from 2-0 down at The Hawthorns.

Mohamed Salah’s 31st Premier League goal of the season wasn’t enough for Liverpool as West Brom fought back from 2-0 down at The Hawthorns.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp takes a dig at the state of West Brom’s pitch and comments on a couple controversial incidents from their draw at The Hawthorns.
Liverpool seemed to have next week’s Champions League semi-final on their minds as they threw away a two-goal lead at the Hawthorns in what was generally a lacklustre display against the league’s bottom club. The Reds have now failed to beat West Brom in three meetings this season but there was no excuse for letting this one slip away.

Positives
It’s been a long road back from various injuries for Danny Ings and it was a sweet moment for him when he opened the scoring just minutes into the game….

Liverpool carried a comfortable lead into the second leg and had little to do at Anfield as they advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2008-09.

Liverpool carried a comfortable lead into the second leg and had little to do at Anfield as they advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2008/09.
Liverpool comfortably progressed to the last eight of the Champions League after a fairly uneventful encounter at Anfield. The Reds had done the hard work in the first leg but it was important they remained professional and there can be no complaints about what was an ultra-professional showing.

Positives
The attitude and desire of the players was first class. It’s always difficult to perform at full throttle in this type of situation and although the Reds were not at their brilliant best in attack,…

Shaka Hislop and Mark Donaldson discuss what makes the Mane-Salah-Firmino partnership so effective and how they compare to other attacking trios around Europe.
Liverpool striker Danny Ings said he has been studying the work Roberto Firmino does both on and off the ball.
Ings, returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines after successive long-term knee injuries, made his Champions League debut as a substitute in Liverpool’s 5-0 win at Porto on Wednesday.
The ex-Burnley player said he had been paying close attention to Firmino in training, with the Brazil international having scored 21 times this season and contributed 12 assists.
“From the moment I started…
