Squirrel pitch invader gives Man City ground staff the runaround

It’s perhaps fair to suggest that Manchester City’s long-winded Carabao Cup victory over Wolves wasn’t the most enthralling spectacle, so it’s little wonder that a mischievous pitch invader grabbed all the attention.
Indeed, a rogue squirrel found its way inside the Etihad Stadium and duly made its presence known, toying with ground staff before kick-off.

The squirrel went scampering across the turf as the City players were warming up, nimbly evading capture at every turn.

English Football League to use ABBA format in penalty shootouts

Penalties are set to look different this season in EFL competitions.
The English Football League (EFL) is introducing the new ABBA format for penalty shoot-outs in its competitions during the 2017-18 season.
Already being trialled by UEFA, the system is based on the format used in tennis tie-breaks, with the team taking the first kick in each pair of kicks alternating, so AB BA AB and so on instead of AB AB etc.
The EFL’s trial of the format will apply to this season’s League Cup, EFL Trophy and the playoffs, with the first opportunity for its use coming in the League…

Carabao Cup first round draw

Manchester United beat Southampton 3-2 to win last season’s League Cup final.
The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup — formerly known as the EFL Cup, won by Manchester United last season — will take place at around 1 p.m. BST, 8 a.m. ET on Friday, June 16.
The draw is being made in Bangkok, after the Thailand-based energy drinks brand Carabao signed an £18 million, three-year deal with the EFL to become the competition’s title sponsor last year.
