Southampton academy graduate Matt Targett has signed a new five-year contract with the Premier League club.
The 21-year-old defender missed the majority of the 2016-17 campaign, in which Saints finished eighth, due to a hamstring injury but has impressed new St Mary’s boss Mauricio Pellegrino in preseason.

Manolo Gabbiadini became the third player to miss from the spot in the past five games as his sixth-minute effort was saved by stand-in goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
Romero also pulled off a string of good stops in the second half to extend the Saints’ scoring drought at the St Mary’s Stadium.
