But ASEAN success is just one of the hopes for Southeast Asia’s most populous nation.
Here are five 2018 football wishes for Indonesia.

Robert Alberts’ PSM Makassar blew the Indonesian title race wide open on Thursday with a 2-0 win at the home of Liga One leaders Bhayangkara.
With four games of the season remaining, the Sulawesi team moved into second and a point behind Bhayangkara, who have now lost two successive league games just when a first title had moved into sight.

Semen Padang will not be looking for a big-name replacement after the Indonesian side released Didier Zokora halfway through the Liga 1 season.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla hard man has been let go, as the struggling club look to cut costs.
“Didier Zokora was released to make the team more efficient,” Semen Padang team manager Win Bernadino said.
“This is given the high operational costs that we must meet to stay in the league. With conditions that we have, management needs to make savings.”
Despite being unbeaten, Persib Bandung are paying the price for too many draws.
Michael Essien’s Persib Bandung may be unbeaten in Indonesia Liga 1 so far this season, but there is pressure on coach Djadjang Nurdjaman ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Bali United.
The big-spending team slipped down into fifth in the league over the weekend but could move into second with three points at the nation’s favourite beach destination. Failure to do so could spell trouble.
