Relive Jonathan Klinsmann’s senior debut for Hertha Berlin, including a late penalty save that helped preserve a 1-1 draw against Ostersunds.
BERLIN — Jonathan Klinsmann knew he wanted to return to his German roots when making the move to Hertha Berlin last summer.
Klinsmann, the son of former United States men’s national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, went on trial at several European clubs after playing in the Under-20 World Cup in South Korea in May before signing for Bundesliga side Hertha in July.
He has since made nine appearances for the club’s under-23 team in the fourth division and one for the senior team.

Eryk Williamson, left, played for the U.S. at the Under-20 World Cup.
D.C. United traded the rights to U.S. under-20 midfielder Eryk Williamson to the Portland Timbers on Tuesday.
As a product of D.C.’s academy, Williamson was a homegrown player, but United general manager Dave Kasper told the Washington Post that they could not agree to terms on a professional contract.
The 20-year-old can now sign with the Timbers, who sent D.C. $200,000 in allocation money, a second-round 2018 draft pick and a 2018 international roster slot in exchange.
D.C. United will also retain…

Tillman, 19, last played for Germany’s under-19 team in European Championship qualifiers in October, but rather than rejoin them in March, he will join up with the U.S. under-20s instead.
“He told me he’s ready to go and ready to join us and I’m excited to have him in the group because we haven’t had him in before,” Ramos told Goal.

Taylor Twellman says that watching the World Cup draw without USMNT involvement should be a wake-up call and motivation for U.S. Soccer.
BERLIN — Jonathan Klinsmann, the son of former United States coach Jurgen Klinsmann, saved a crucial penalty during his professional first-team debut in Hertha Berlin’s Europa League game against Ostersunds on Thursday.
Klinsmann dived to his left to paw aside Brwa Nouri’s attempt in the 87th minute and preserved a 1-1 draw. The result prevented the Swedish club from winning Group J.

Following their defeat at the weekend, the ESPN FC crew wonder if they’ve set the bar too high for Tottenham this season.

Shaka Hislop dissects the UCL draw for each Premier League club and evaluates their chances of advancing from their groups. United States youth international Cameron Carter-Vickers is set to join Championship club Sheffield United on a season-long loan, sources have told ESPN FC.
Carter-Vickers, 19, made four appearances in the domestic cups last season but he is yet to feature in the Premier League for Spurs.
Last season, Mauricio Pochettino said Carter-Vickers could become “one of the best centre-backs in England” and the Spurs manager has generally been reluctant to send the most promising young players at the club…
