The United States ended 2018 with a loss to Italy on a late goal, despite a strong performance from goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.
The final match of 2018 failed to deliver a goal, much less a win, for the United States men’s national team. A heroic performance from goalkeeper Ethan Horvath was all that saved the Americans from a humiliating loss in a game dominated by Italy at Luminus Arena in Genk, Belgium.

Positives
Horvath’s play is the only clear positive from a game in which the Americans had a paltry 26.7 percent possession and ultimately succumbed to Italy’s pressure. The 23-year old made a strong case that he –…

The future backbone of the U.S. men’s national team is taking shape.

U.S. interim manager Dave Sarachan once again named a youthful side ahead of an international friendly, in this case a match against Bolivia on May 28. But one can already detect some common threads in terms of the players getting called in.

It’s true that Christian Pulisic is back in the mix for the first time since that brutal night in Trinidad on which the U.S. failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in…

CARY, N.C. — Dave Sarachan has seen a few defenders develop during his coaching career. Max Bretos and Herculez Gomez break down the United States’ roster for the Paraguay friendly on the latest episode of the Max & Herc Podcast.

Brad Guzan joins Taylor Twellman in the ESPN FC Heineken Boot Room bus to talk all angles of the USMNT’s World Cup qualifying debacle.

Work on a foundation is as critical as it is tedious. There’s little in the way of a visual or emotional payoff, but progress is impossible without it.

This is the work that is currently going on with the U.S. men’s national team and it’s as good an explanation as any as to why it needs to play matches ahead of a World Cup in which it won’t feature. Sure, a new manager (and a new GM for that matter) still needs to be hired, but now seems an opportune time for the process to begin for some and…

LISBON – The U.S. men’s national team has hit rock bottom. At least that’s what everyone connected to the program hopes. The dream of going to the 2018 World Cup has been obliterated, with a reckoning within the team and the U.S. Soccer Federation now at hand.

It is against this backdrop that the U.S. men have one more game to play in 2017, a friendly against Portugal in Leiria. And it is here that the U.S. aims to provide a morsel of the fuel that drives national teams everywhere: hope.
