Former Zambia assistant coach Irfan Kawri believes he could be the man to end the Chipolopolo’s wait to reach a maiden World Cup.
The 2012 African champions have taken part in 13 qualifying campaigns for international football’s showpiece, and are one of the most high-profile African nations never to have reached the grandest stage of all.
Indeed, the only other African Cup of Nations winners not to have reached the Mundial are Sudan, Ethiopia and Congo-Brazzaville – all of whom won the continental…

Irfan Kawri was only 11 when Zambia’s Golden Generation were lost in a plane crash in 1993, but 25 years since that tragedy, the former Chipolopolo assistant coach remembers a day that changed the face of the nation’s football.
That side appeared destined for great things, having been built upon the 1988 Olympic side that had thrashed Italy 4-0 in Seoul in a remarkable display of vibrant attacking football.

FAZ’s previous sponsorship deal was $3 million over three years, and…

Southern Africa has put on a surprisingly good showing at the ongoing 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco, with all three of their entrants making it through to this weekend’s quarter finals.
The competition is open to players who ply their trade in their local leagues, and while the success of Zambia in reaching the knockout stages is perhaps of little surprise, Namibia and perhaps to a lesser extent Angola, have performed above expectations.
All three teams from the region went through…

Zambia drew 1-1 with Namibia in Casablanca to top Group B and set up an African Nations Championship meeting with Sudan, while the point sets the Brave Warriors up for a date with hosts Morocco in the next round.
In the group’s other fixture, already eliminated duo Uganda and Ivory Coast played out a stodgy 0-0 draw in Marrakech, as both sides ended disappointing campaigns on a limp note.
Surprise pacakge Namibia had left it late before striking in both of their first two fixtures, but here they…
