Jefferson Savarino caught RSL’s eye after scoring in the Copa Libertadores in March.
Real Salt Lake has acquired forward Jefferson Savarino on loan from Zulia in Venezuela and signed him as a young designated player.
To make the move, RSL used targeted allocation money to buy down the contract of Joao Plata, who only signed a new DP deal in February. Now more of Plata’s $350,000 base salary will count toward RSL’s budget.
Savarino will join RSL for at least the rest of the season after scoring 22 goals in 48 games in the Venezuelan top flight. RSL general…

Chapecoense made an emotional return to the Copa Liberatadores on Tuesday night, as they beat Zulia 2-1.
Journalist Rafael Henzel said he was overcome with emotion after calling Chapecoense’s Copa Libertadores 2-1 debut victory on Tuesday night over Venezuelan club Zulia in Maracaibo. 
Henzel, who was one of just six to survive the tragic plane crash that killed 71 players and personnel this past November when the club was en route to Colombia for the Copa Sudamerica final, called the match for Radio Oeste Capital in Chapeco after the team travelled on their first flight since the accident.

Chapecoense beat Zulia 2-1 in the Copa Libertadores as the Brazilian club took part in an overseas fixture for the first time since the devastating plane crash which killed most of their squad.
Only six of the 77 people who were travelling to Colombia survived the tragedy in November, including three Chapecoense players — goalkeeper Jackson Follmann, defender Neto and winger Alan Ruschel.
In total 19 players and 24 other club members died as the plane crashed into a mountain near the city of Medellin.
