Yannick Carrasco was on target as Dalian Yifang’s 2-0 Chinese Super League win over Changchun Yatai spared last year’s second division champions relegation on Sunday.
The result means Changchun finished 15th in the 16-team league and joined Guizhou Zhicheng in dropping into China League One as the top-flight season came to an end.
Belgium international Carrasco, a high-profile signing from Atletico Madrid, netted Dalian’s second goal after Duvier Riascos had given Bernd Schuster’s team the lead midway…

If Super Eagles fans had their way, Odion Ighalo’s international career would have been over at the final whistle of Nigeria’s last game of the 2018 World Cup.
The main cause for outrage was a costly miss against Argentina, which would have taken the Super Eagles to 2-0, and made Marcos Rojo’s late goal moot, sending the Nigerians to the round of 16.
Ighalo’s miss was not quite as bad as Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s from the 2010 World Cup against South Korea, but the reaction across the country was pretty…

The Chinese football authorities have banned Changchun Yatai’s Zhang Li for six games after he was found guilty of “causing chaos” during an altercation with ex-Chelsea striker Demba Ba in the Chinese Super League last weekend.

Nicolas Gaitan set up Wang Jinxian to open the scoring after just 18 minutes before the Argentinian put his side further in front 11 minutes into the second half.
But Zhu Xiaogang’s sending off on the hour mark for a second bookable offence threw…

Andre Villas-Boas and Shanghai SIPG failed to return to top spot.
Shanghai SIPG missed the chance to move into pole position in the Chinese Super League when they lost 4-2 to Changchun Yatai on Sunday.
The result leaves Andre Villas-Boas’ side a point adrift of Guangzhou Evergrande, who lost 2-0 to Beijing Guoan on Saturday.
With Oscar serving the third game of his eight match suspension and Hulk and Wu Lei also ruled out, SIPG collapsed in the first half as Changchun raced into a three-goal lead.
Szabolcs Huszti put them in front from the penalty spot in the…
