ANNAPOLIS, Md. — As Gold Cup warm ups go, Wednesday’s friendly against Jamaica is shaping up to be the tune-up before the tune-up for the United States men’s national team.
The bulk of the U.S. roster just arrived over the weekend, giving most of the players just two training sessions to prepare for the match. Linchpins Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams won’t even be available, as the duo won’t meet up with their international teammates until June 6 and June 11, respectively.
The fact that neither…

Taylor Twellman disagrees with the sending off of Cristian Roldan as the referee should have been a little more subjective in interpreting the rules for hands to the face.
Sounders midfielder Cristian Roldan will be eligible to play when the Seattle travels to Minnesota United after his red card from last weekend’s game was rescinded.
The team said on Wednesday that it had won its appeal of Roldan’s red card from Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Los Angeles FC. Roldan would otherwise have been suspended for Saturday’s game.

Clint Dempsey was able to come back from a heart condition and silence all doubters with a superb 2017 season.

SEATTLE — When Cristian Roldan was a boy, he fantasized about one day pulling on FC Barcelona’s famous blue-and-garnet jersey.

Like many soccer-crazed youngsters of his generation, Roldan idolized Barca midfielders Andres Iniesta and Xavi. They shaped how he saw the game. They were the guys he lined up alongside in his daydreams.

Most of us outgrow such adolescent fantasies by the time we hit our teens. Roldan’s experience has been the opposite — if anything, he’s grown into his.

Now, Barcelona…

As qualifying winds down, Bruce Arena says the U.S. are still a long way from Russia, but hopes experience helps his team.

Bruce Arena says he’s confident all 26 U.S. players in his latest squad can make an impact against Costa Rica and Honduras.

Brad Guzan reflects on the United States’ 14-match unbeaten run entering two crucial World Cup qualifying matches.

In what has become a timely honored tradition, right when you are settling back into the rhythm of a new European campaign and/or enjoying the fast-paced final quarter of the MLS season, FIFA slams the brakes on everything with an international break.

But there’s no reason to fret; it’s not a lame slate of friendlies but rather a pivotal week of World Cup qualifiers on the docket, especially for the United States men’s national team.

The old saying is familiarity breeds contempt, so by that…

Cristian Roldan led the way in the second half with a brace to help Seattle cruise past San Jose at home. Cristian Roldan said he was delighted the Seattle Sounders were able to win two games this week “without their big-time guys” Clint Dempsey and Jordan Morris.
In their absence, he might have solidified his own status as a big-timer.
Roldan scored twice in less than two minutes in the second half and newly acquired Kelvin Leerdam got his first MLS goal, leading the Sounders past the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0 on Sunday night.
All three goals came in a span of 11 minutes for the Sounders, who won their…

Alejandro Moreno slams the United States’ narrow victory over Gold Cup minnows Martinique.

Bruce Arena gives credit to a few players for performing well versus Martinique, despite the U.S.’s lack of cutting edge.

Omar Gonzalez was pleased to get on the scoresheet, but was upset with the United States’ defensive frailties.

Bruce Arena says the U.S. must cope with the physicality vs. Martinique and hopes Dom Dwyer can continue his goal form.
Midfielder Cristian Roldan said he was “very proud” to make his debut for the United States in Wednesday’s 3-2 Gold Cup victory over Martinique.
Roldan, who was eligible to represent El Salvador and Guatemala, played the full 90 minutes and after the match expressed the emotions he felt on his special night.
“Obviously it was extremely emotional. I’m very proud,” he said after logging 90 minutes against Les Matinino. “It’s something that I’ve dreamt about for a long time, and hopefully…

On Sunday, United States national team head coach Bruce Arena made his long-awaited roster announcement for the World Cup qualifiers versus Trinidad and Tobago (June 8) and Mexico (June 11). Each of the 15 MLS players on the roster has at least one cap to their name, which got us thinking… Who are the domestically-based players worthy of a first cap?
Excluding those with the U.S. at the Under-20 World Cup, plus currently ineligible Columbus Crew striker Kekuta Manneh, here are five names that…
