Douglas Costa has earned a recall to the Brazil squad.
Brazil summoned Juventus winger Douglas Costa and left out Chelsea defender David Luiz for friendlies against Japan and England next month.
Brazil will play Japan on Nov. 10 in the French city of Lille, and England four days later in London. All of the teams have qualified for the World Cup.
The priority was to test midfielders and forwards like Costa and still keep the team’s identity, coach Tite said in a news conference on Friday.
“We called Costa at times in which he had physical problems, and…

Edin Dzeko and Eden Hazard both scored a brace for their sides as the two top teams of Group C battle to a 3-3 draw.

Eden Hazard reflects on Chelsea’s breathless 3-3 draw with Roma in the UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea came from behind to grab a 3-3 draw with Roma in a topsy-turvy game at Stamford Bridge.

The first half was a surprisingly open affair with both teams fashioning multiple chances. Chelsea were content to allow the visitors much of the ball and play on the counterattack and an early link-up between Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata tested the goalkeeper Alisson. Roma had a decent chance of their own when Diego Perotti weaved his way through Chelsea’s midfield before firing just over from the…

Edin Dzeko and Eden Hazard both scored a brace for their sides as the two top teams of Group C battle to a 3-3 draw.

LONDON — Three quick thoughts from Stamford Bridge on Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Roma in the UEFA Champions League.

1. Chelsea and Roma share six-goal thriller

Champions League group games can be rather staid affairs, the inconsequentiality of many rendering them box-ticking exercises. That was quite emphatically not the case at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, when Chelsea and Roma drew a pulsating game 3-3 in which both teams held the lead and threw it away.

Chelsea were 2-0 up through…

The FC panel debate whether or not Diego Costa still has a future at Chelsea.

Craig Burley examines whether Chelsea or Liverpool need Virgil van Dijk more and why he has not left Southampton yet.

As soon as the Chelsea team sheet was announced prior to the opening day fixture with Burnley, there were mutterings all around the media about a message being sent by the manager to the boardroom. With the substitutes’ bench filled with names unfamiliar to those outside of the Chelsea fold and Jeremie Boga being given his Premier League debut, it was seen as a conspicuous ploy by Antonio Conte to shame his bosses into delving further into the transfer market.
The truth is, due to the sparse…

Janusz Michallik tells Alexis Nunes what stood out for him from both sides of Arsenal’s penalty shootout win over Chelsea in the Community Shield.

Arsenal won the Community Shield for the 15th time after defeating Chelsea in a penalty shootout.
Chelsea contrived to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory as Arsenal prevailed via a penalty shootout win following a 1-1 draw in the Community Shield pre-season curtain raiser at Wembley.
Victor Moses gave Chelsea the lead early in the second-half and despite the narrow margin, the Blues looked to be coasting to victory until Pedro needlessly scythed down Mohamed Elneny with 10 minutes left. Cesc Fabregas negligently played Arsenal’s forward players onside at Granit Xhaka’s resultant free kick…

With the 2017/18 Premier League season around the corner, Stevie Nicol predicts who will finish in the top 4.

Steve Nicol believes that Man City’s big summer spending has made the club favourites to win the Premier League.

With Man United and Chelsea back in the Champions League, will this year’s competition now be tighter than ever?
First impressions matter but, in Premier League terms, they can also be deceptive. England’s top flight has seen many players initially disappoint having moved to a new club, only to then thrive — see Robert Pires or Didier Drogba, for example.
Likewise, though, there are also those who look sensational initially but prove to be one-season wonders; Michu and Roque Santa Cruz were superb upon their arrival, only to entirely underwhelm after that.
Here are three players approaching their second season…
