New Delhi — The crisis facing Indian football has reached the doorsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with six I-League clubs requesting him to set up an enquiry commission and “probe the All India Football Federation’s functioning”.
In a letter signed by Swapan Sadhan Bose, managing director of Mohun Bagan, the I-League clubs have urged the Prime Minister to “intervene and save the sport”.
Besides Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Churchill Brothers, FC Goa, Gokulam Kerala FC, Minerva Punjab FC and…

To talk about my association with PK, I would have to go back more than 50 years. When we were playing domestic football, he used to play for Railways and I used to turn out for Tata’s, and then for Maharashtra and Bombay in the Santosh Trophy. My relationship with him was cordial, and we always caught up and cracked jokes when drawn to play each other.

Inside 11 seconds of the restart of their last match of 2018, East Bengal’s hopes of winning the I-League almost went up in flames in front of their own fans, at the Salt Lake Stadium.
Debutants Real Kashmir, having defended doggedly for 45 minutes, saw midfielder Surchandra Singh zip in a low cross after bombing down the right. East Bengal right-back Lalramchullova tracked back swiftly but the pace of the cross skewed his clearance into the roof of his own net.
Kashmir, perhaps the stingiest defence…

Real Kashmir’s fairy-tale run as the I-League title contenders in their debut season came to an end after a 2-1 loss to East Bengal on Thursday, but coach David Robertson still takes pride in his side’s campaign. Robertson, who led the side through the I-League second division last season, however, had no regrets. “If someone said at the start of the season we will be where we are now, we would be delighted,” said the former Scotland international, who has managed Real Kashmir for the last two seasons.

On a day of dramatic developments in the I-League, East Bengal’s 1-1 draw against ten-men Aizawl FC took them into second place on the I-League table, seven points behind Chennai City and ahead of Real Kashmir only on goal difference.
