Inside 11 seconds of the restart of their last match of 2018, East Bengal’s hopes of winning the I-League almost went up in flames in front of their own fans, at the Salt Lake Stadium.

Real Kashmir’s fairy-tale run as the I-League title contenders in their debut season came to an end after a 2-1 loss to East Bengal on Thursday, but coach David Robertson still takes pride in his side’s campaign. Minerva Punjab did not travel to Srinagar to face Real Kashmir
The run-in to the I-League season has taken an unexpected twist following the killing last week of 44 paramilitary troops in Kashmir. Minerva Punjab, the reigning champions, stayed away from Monday’s match in Srinagar against Real Kashmir and subsequently moved the Delhi High Court seeking a change of venue.
The AIFF has not declared the match forfeit – which would mean Minerva losing all three points – but instead referred it to the League Committee for further action.
