Bolton Wanderers will begin next season in League One with a 12-point deduction after going into administration, the English Football League (EFL) said on Monday.
The EFL said it will now begin discussions with Bolton’s administrators aimed at achieving a long-term future for the club whose relegation from the Championship was confirmed last month.

Joe Thompson, the Rochdale midfielder who has beaten cancer twice in the past six years, has been forced to retire at the age of 29 after admitting that he has pushed his body to the “absolute limit.”

Sir Alex Ferguson’s son Darren Ferguson has been hired to manage Peterborough United until the end of the season, the club announced on Saturday.
Ferguson, 46, will oversee the League One side’s final 17 games.

Sunderland will end Papy Djilobodji’s contract after he was absent from the club without leave and then “comprehensively” failed a fitness test.
Djilobodji, under contract with the League One club until the summer of 2020, was given permission to take unpaid leave in July.

Blackpool manager Gary Bowyer has stepped down after one game of the new season, the League One side said on Monday.
Blackpool began their campaign with a 0-0 draw at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, but Bowyer will not be in charge of this weekend’s match in a league fixture at home against Portsmouth.
