The FC crew debate whether or not Jurgen Klinsmann would have led the U.S. to the World Cup after Geoff Cameron stated results would have been different had Klinsmann not been sacked. Geoff Cameron has blamed U.S. Soccer for creating a “poisonous divide” between MLS and European-based players, while also expanding on his criticism of former U.S. coach Bruce Arena.
Cameron recently said that Jurgen Klinsmann would have qualified the U.S. to the World Cup had he not been replaced by Arena. And in a column for The Players’ Tribune on Friday, the defender wrote that Klinsmann believed any promising young American playing in MLS rather than Europe was a “wasted opportunity.”
In contrast,…

USMNT Interim coach Dave Sarachan provides his assessment of defenders Ike Opara, Matt Polster and goalkeeper Zach Steffen.
Geoff Cameron is convinced the United States would have qualified for the World Cup had Jurgen Klinsmann remained coach, and has insisted Bruce Arena made decisions that directly cost the Americans a place in Russia this summer.
The Arena-led U.S. crashed out at the qualifying stage for the 2018 event in Russia last October after a 2-1 loss to Trinidad & Tobago, which, combined with wins from Panama and Honduras, left the U.S. out of the game’s biggest tournament for the first time since…

Geoff Cameron, left, is in a fitness race to return for Stoke this weekend.
Stoke City manager Mark Hughes says he is hopeful that American defender Geoff Cameron will return for this weekend’s match against Southampton after sitting out the previous three weeks with a hamstring injury.
With captain Ryan Shawcross set to miss out due to a back injury, and Bruno Martins Indi sidelined by a groin strain, Cameron’s return will provide a valuable boost.
“[Cameron] is probably the one we feel has got a good chance to take part,” Hughes said.
The news will provide some…

The pivotal final round of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying is on the horizon, and so U.S. players far and wide are looking to impress coach Bruce Arena to earn a call. Here’s a look at who’s hot and who’s not.

Heating up

Danny Williams, MF, Huddersfield Town (Premier League)

Why he’s here: In his first-ever Premier League start, Williams was a 90-minute workhorse for Huddersfield Town in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City.

What this means: Since he took over in November, Arena has shied…

Taylor Twellman reflects on a damaging United States loss to Costa Rica and points the blame at Bruce Arena.

Taylor Twellman and Ian Darke join Herc Gomez and Kasey Keller to dissect USMNT’s disappointing display against Costa Rica.

USMNT head coach Bruce Arena reflects on his side’s uninspired World Cup qualifier defeat to Costa Rica.

Herculez Gomez and Kasey Keller reflect on the U.S.’s psyche after their crushing defeat ahead of a crucial Honduras clash.

Sometimes the scoreline tells the story of a game. Sometimes, however, it doesn’t.

The United States men’s national team fell to Costa Rica 2-0 at Red Bull Arena on Friday night. It was the worst (read: only) defeat of the Bruce Arena 2.0 era and a significant, though hardly emphatic, blow to the American’s World Cup qualifying chances.

The dos a cero defeat was not a pretty affair for the red, white and blue. But it also was not as poor as the scoreboard might indicate. Costa Rica got its…
