Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp said Sadio Mane is finally back to his best after Liverpool thrashed Porto 5-0.

Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp said Sadio Mane is finally back to his best after Liverpool thrashed Porto 5-0.
Though Liverpool’s forwards grab the headlines — even Sadio Mane scored a hat trick at Porto last Wednesday — another player is delighting the fans for different reasons.
Left-back was always a thorny position for the Reds. There have been poor players, like Andrea Dossena and Paul Konchesky; there have been unlucky players, like Fabio Aurelio and Jim Beglin. Even the most consistent of them, John Arne Riise, could infuriate at times with rare consensus over whether he was really a defender or…

ESPN FC’s Shaka Hislop looks at Liverpool’s options in goal.
LIVERPOOL — Andrew Robertson’s path to becoming Liverpool’s starting left-back has not been well-trodden. There have been a number of fortunate moments in the 23-year-old’s career that have helped take him to where he is now, but there is no doubt his talent and adaptability have been the contributing factors to his remarkable rise.
“Any luck that he has had then he’s more than earned,” Gardner Speirs, Robertson’s manager at Scottish amateur side Queen’s Park, tells ESPN FC. “Everything he’s had…

Former Liverpool players Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler talk to ESPN FC and laud Liverpool’s attacking prowess.
Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson said he had spoken to Jurgen Klopp about his lack of game time and been told he remains part of the manager’s first-team plans.
Robertson has made just three appearances since signing from Hull City in the summer, but the 23-year-old said he felt he could force his way back into the starting XI if he took Klopp’s advice.
“Of course it’s difficult. I don’t make any secret of it, I hate not playing,” Scotland international Robertson said.
“It’s been a very frustrating…

Jurgen Klopp says it feels ‘strange’ and ‘wrong’ that Liverpool could only muster a point against Burnley at Anfield.
Liverpool defender Joel Matip has said his side should have taken more than a point against Burnley at Anfield on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw despite having 35 shots and more than 70 percent of possession.
And Matip felt Liverpool did everything but score a decisive second goal, telling Liverpool’s official website: “It was a tough game and I think we deserved more.
“But we have to handle this and we’re looking forward to the next game.
“We did a lot of good…

The FC panel question if Liverpool can see out their narrow 2-1 advantage over Hoffenheim in Champions League qualifying.

Paul Mariner and Alexis Nunes preview Liverpool’s crucial leg 2 clash with Hoffenheim in the UEFA Champions League.
Joel Matip says Andrew Robertson’s impressive debut for Liverpool gave the impression that the left-back had played for the club for “a long, long time.”
Robertson, 23, drew praise from manager Jurgen Klopp after his display in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday.
It was the Scotland international’s first Premier League appearance for Liverpool since his summer move from Hull City.
“He played really good,” Matip told the club’s official website. “His situations were really clear…

After knocking at Crystal Palace’s door all game, Sadio Mane finally found a way through at Anfield.

English Premier League: Sadio Mane (73′) Liverpool 1-0 Crystal Palace
Not entirely convincing but Liverpool did enough to pick up their first win of the season against a side they often have trouble with. Sadio Mane eventually broke the deadlock after 73 minutes and only a string of late saves by Palace keeper Wayne Hennessey kept the score close.

Craig Burley assesses Liverpool’s prospects for overcoming Hoffenheim in the UCL playoff round without Philippe Coutinho.

While everyone at Anfield was worrying about Philippe Coutinho’s future, nobody seemed to notice that the back door was still wide open. Nearly two years after Jurgen Klopp arrived on Merseyside, Liverpool’s defending is as shambolic as ever.

With a crucial Champions League qualifying tie against Hoffenheim looming, the manner in which Liverpool conceded so freely in the 3-3 draw against Watford is worrying. The Bundesliga side will be encouraged by the Premier League team’s leaky defence.

ROTTACH-EGERN, Germany — Andrew Robertson believes Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of his unique journey to Liverpool after overcoming some major setbacks along the way.

Robertson completed an £8 million switch, which could rise to £10m, to Anfield last week and is part of Liverpool’s squad for their training camp in Germany.

The Scotland international was released by his boyhood Celtic at 15 and had to re-climb the ladder via the Scottish third division, while working a part-time job.

Jurgen Klopp has discussed the rumours linking Philippe Coutinho with Barcelona.
Amid all the guesswork about which multi-million pound footballers may or may not join Liverpool, the imminent arrival of Hull City defender Andy Robertson is something of a relief.
The inevitable question about whether Robertson is good enough for a first team place can wait until supporters have seen him in action. He will replace Alberto Moreno and given the Spaniard is the least trusted player in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, many will feel the Scot could hardly be worse.
Wishful thinking perhaps, because…
