Sebastian Giovinco dazzled again Sunday afternoon, scoring twice and assisting another goal in Toronto’s rout of NYCFC.
Lots of movement in the Power Rankings this week, as Toronto FC leapt to the top after its big win and the Chicago Fire’s loss to Sporting Kansas City.
1. Toronto FC (+2): Just in case anyone had forgotten, Sebastian Giovinco reminded MLS that he remains the best player in the league with two goals in a 4-0 romp over NYCFC.
2. Chicago Fire (-1): On the field, the Fire ran into a Sporting team with something to prove and lost 3-2 in Kansas City. Off it, David Accam’s future remains up in the air.

Janusz Michallik and Steve Nicol disagree over whether David Villa or Giovinco is a better player to build a squad around.

Sebastian Giovinco dazzled again Sunday afternoon, scoring twice and assisting another goal in Toronto’s rout of NYCFC.

Quite a few notable names have made the MLS All-Star fan XI, so take a look back at their top highlights so far.
Sebastian Giovinco can become the greatest MLS player of all time, according to Toronto FC coach Greg Vanney.
The 30-year-old scored twice in the 4-0 win against New York City to put Toronto five points clear at the top of the Eastern Conference.
“When it’s all said and done, he’s going to be one of the guys that has a lot of goals and a lot of assists because he’s a great player,” Vanney said. “Maybe the best that has ever played in this league. I would say [so] — everybody wants to debate that…

Max Bretos recaps the best of Saturday’s MLS action, including Toronto FC’s club-record winning streak.

There is plenty to admire about Toronto FC’s six-game winning streak.

The Reds have won at home and on the road. They have proved to be adaptable, using multiple formations along the way. Toronto has logged plenty of frequent flyer miles in the process, having endured a cross-continent trip to Seattle; all while cramming the six wins into an absurd 22-day span.

As for how TFC have been able to string together this many victories, it has certainly helped that Toronto didn’t have a seven-plus-game…

Tosaint Ricketts’ header proved the winner as Toronto outlasted Minnesota in a back-and-forth goal frenzy. Toronto FC will be without Sebastian Giovinco for the next three weeks after the star forward picked up a quadriceps strain in Saturday’s win, which also saw defender Nick Hagglund suffer a serious knee injury.
Giovinco opened the scoring from the penalty spot in what was to be Toronto’s sixth-straight victory, 3-2 over Minnesota, but he limped off the field just before halftime.
Toronto coach Greg Vanney said at the time that the substitution was merely precautionary after Giovinco felt…

From Darlington Nagbe’s stunner to Cyle Larin’s brace, relive all the goals from Week 8 in MLS.

Sebastian Giovinco capped a brace with a brilliant free kick to lead Toronto FC past Chicago Fire.

NYCFC made a late push but could not overcome the 2-goal deficit created from Orlando City’s Cyle Larin.
With another round of Major League Soccer in the books, here’s who fired and who failed this weekend:
Heroes
The frustration with Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe that is so routinely expressed by Portland fans and Nagbe admirers alike is about one thing: His maddening unwillingness to use his ample gifts to take over games. Sure, the Timbers have Diego Valeri to do the bulk of the creative work, but Nagbe’s combination of speed and technique screams for him to shine more in the final…
