Sebastian Giovinco has admitted he did think of returning to Italy, but now says is happy and settled at MLS franchise Toronto FC.
The 31-year-old forward left Juventus for Canada in 2015 and was named the MLS’ MVP at the end of his first season, in which he scored 22 goals in 33 games.
He lifted the MLS Cup last year, after losing out to Seattle Sounders FC in 2016, and said he is now so settled in North America that he no longer contemplates returning to Europe, even though the thought did cross…

David Beckham lauds Wayne Rooney’s move to Major League Soccer and how much of an impact he’ll have on and off the pitch for D.C. United.

Wayne Rooney’s move to D.C. United follows a long line of European superstars who made the jump to Major League Soccer, not always with success. Here’s a look at 11 players who came before him and against whom Rooney will be measured.

David Beckham

Patient Zero for the Designated Player era didn’t exactly burn up the league in the early years of his LA Galaxy stint beyond the occasional stylish photo shoot. The slow start did eventually give way when Beckham fully committed himself after two…

Cristian Penilla scored twice for New England in the first ten minutes as the Revs survive a late onslaught from Toronto.
Toronto FC captain Michael Bradley called for MLS to use “a little bit of discretion and feel” in red-card judgments after star attacker Sebastian Giovinco was sent off late in Toronto’s 3-2 defeat to New England on Saturday night.
Giovinco had just cut Toronto’s deficit to one with an 89th-minute penalty and while running back to the center circle momentarily put his hand to the face of the Revoltion’s Wilfried Zahibo, and referee Mark Geiger issued the Italian the first red card of his career…

The MLS Players Association released its salary data on Wednesday — a twice annual practice for the union — which showed the Toronto FC striker was guaranteed $7.1 million this season. He’s followed by TFC teammate Michael Bradley ($6.5m), LAFC’s Carlos Vela (just under $6.3m), the Chicago Fire’s Bastian Schweinsteiger ($6.1m) and the LA Galaxy’s…

Alejandro Moreno and Herculez Gomez break down everything that went wrong for Toronto against Chivas in the 1st leg of the CCL final.

Will Chivas continue Mexico’s CCL dominance, or will Toronto make history for MLS? Hercluez Gomez makes the case for both sides ahead of the final. Sebastian Giovinco believes Toronto FC’s unwillingness to enter into new contract talks is a “a little bit” of a problem, the Italian star told the Toronto Sun.
Giovinco, 31, is the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer on a deal that paid him over $7 million last season but expires after next year.
And the playmaker said that, while he is happy in Toronto, he is starting to become concerned that the MLS champions have declined to open negotiations.
“I already talk, but they said it’s not the…

Joao Mario to Man United: 40 percent
The Portuguese international has lost his starting job at Inter after the arrivals of Borja Valero and Matias Vecino. Old Trafford could be a destination because of Jose Mourinho’s close ties to Inter, as well as the fact that they can afford the remaining amortized value of his previous transfer fee, which…

Ale Moreno previews the Seattle-Toronto MLS Cup rematch and believes both sides are even stronger than they were last year.

TORONTO — When Toronto FC acquired Sebastian Giovinco prior to the 2015 campaign, manager Greg Vanney thought he knew what he was getting. Sure, the Italian international’s technical gifts were obvious, but player and coach were soon engaged in a bit of back-and-forth as to how best to use them.

You see, Vanney thought he was getting a playmaker, “a nine-and-a-half,” someone to be more of a setup man and play a little withdrawn from the more physically imposing Jozy Altidore. That wasn’t quite…

Following Michael Bradley’s comments aimed at Columbus, the FC guys evaluate if the midfielder’s words hold any weight.

Sebastian Giovinco is a problem that MLS defenses have been trying to solve for three seasons now with little success. The Toronto FC forward has an MVP award to his name, probably should have had a second last year and has totaled 60 goals and 41 assists in 95 league and playoff appearances.

The Columbus Crew had the benefit of not facing Giovinco — as well as strike partner Jozy Altidore — in the first leg of the Eastern Conference final, which ended in a 0-0 tie. But now TFC manager Greg…

Gab Marcotti and Craig Burley go back and forth on how much Gian Piero Ventura is at fault for Italy missing the World Cup.

Watch the reaction of Italy’s players after the four-time world champions missed qualifying for a 15th straight World Cup. Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco’s agent has hit out at Italy coach Gian Piero Ventura for ignoring his client and said his use of a restricted group of players was part of the reason for Italy’s World Cup failure.
Giovinco was not called up by Ventura despite outstanding form in Major League Soccer.
But agent Andrea D’Amico told TMW Radio: “Giovinco never even received a call.
“For him not to be called up is one thing, and that can happen, but for him [Ventura] not even to send somebody to…
