The New York Red Bulls turned in an impressive performance on Tuesday night to beat Tijuana 3-1 in the second leg of a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal tie and advance 5-1 on aggregate.
The visitors, looking to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg, nearly had one back in the opening minutes when a Luis Mendoza shot took a wicked deflection and rattled the Red Bulls crossbar.
New York had a good early chance go wayward minutes later as Daniel Royer’s well-struck side volley was also…

MEXICO CITY — The New York Red Bulls’ win over Club Tijuana in the CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday night sent some shock waves throughout the region. Some of those shock waves resonated throughout the Twittersphere into the following morning.
The 2-0 first-leg win at the Estadio Caliente is significant for Red Bulls fans, who will rightfully note the team is coming off an extended preseason while Tijuana is firmly in the midst of the Clausura 2018 campaign in Liga MX. It’s also an important…

Pumas’ inconsistency is holding them back but victory vs. Chivas would be a tonic.

ESPN FC’s Liga MX writers pick out what you need to watch for in another exciting weekend of action.

Pumas must make a statement vs. Chivas

Sunday’s game in Estadio Olimpico Universitario offers Pumas an opportunity to reassert their playoff hopes, and perhaps their title credentials, following a 4-1 loss to Tijuana last weekend and a 2-1 defeat to Veracruz the weekend before.

Pumas have certainly improved on last season’s last-place finish in Liga MX but the jury remains out on just where…

Henry Martin has been a revelation with his five goals and two assists for Club America.

Expectations are unsurprisingly high for the Liga MX teams involved in this year’s CONCACAF Champions League tournament. Since 2006, no club outside of Mexico’s first division has won top honors in the CONCACAF competition. Whether it be in the “Champions Cup” or “Champions League” era, a Liga MX team always seems to finish with the title in hand.

This year, the responsibility of maintaining that streak from 2006 lies in the hands (and feet) of four Liga MX squads: Club America, Chivas, Tijuana…

U.S. and LA Galaxy legend Landon Donovan is presented at Club Leon and addresses his new fans for the first time.
Liga MX side Club Tijuana has signed U.S. international forward Rubio Rubin, the club announced on Thursday night.
Twenty-one-year-old Rubin was a free agent and had been on the verge of signing a contract with MLS, with one source stating that a draft contract had been written up with terms agreed.
But on Wednesday Tijuana made a last effort to get a deal done, and were able to secure Rubin’s signature.
Rubin has spent his whole professional career in Europe. He signed with Dutch side FC Utrecht…

Tijuana have a much more positive feel under new manager Diego Cocca.
A little less than three months ago, Tijuana made plenty of headlines across the Mexican media landscape, albeit for the wrong reasons.
Amidst the unexpected news on Oct. 30th that then-manager Eduardo Coudet would no longer be working with Tijuana, reports began to emerge that the team was struggling with payment problems. To make matters worse, suspected locker room issues were also reported to have played a role in Coudet’s exit from the club.
Xolos were in shambles off the field, and despite…
