LA’s struggles continued as Clint Dempsey and Jordan Morris both scored to earn three points for Seattle.
One U.S. national team mainstay made consecutive Premier League starts for the first time since August, while another is heading back to England’s top flight after a productive detour in the second tier. In MLS, meanwhile, several attacking players are showing off their sharpness, but there’s also worrying injury news for Bruce Arena, both at home and overseas.
With the start of the next national team camp just over a month away, which Americans are trending north and whose stock is heading the…

Dom Dwyer and Tim Melia were the heroes for Sporting Kansas City as they earned a big away win at Portland.

Portland Timbers striker Fanendo Adi will miss Saturday’s match against the Vancouver Whitecaps after being suspended for one game by Major League Soccer’s Disciplinary Committee, the league announced on Wednesday night.

The ban stems from an incident that occurred during the first half of SKC’s 1-0 win on April 15. Video replays appeared to show Adi swinging his arm at Sporting Kansas City defender Ike Opara in the 26th minute of the contest.

Herculez Gomez delves into the 2026 World Cup hopes of the United States after Bruce Arena’s recent comments.

Earnie Stewart feels the United States have all the tools to become a world power in soccer.

Herculez Gomez shares his thoughts on how the United States would factor into a three-nation World Cup bid.
One U.S. starter is rounding into form. Another just returned from a long layoff, and several youngsters are pushing for inclusion either on Bruce Arena’s roster for June’s World Cup qualifiers against Trinidad and Tobago and at Mexico, the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July, or both.
The priority, of course, is the former.
“We have to get results in these two games,” Arena said last week on a conference call with reporters.
“We’re going to stick to the group of players we had in the last camp and…

Herculez Gomez says Atlanta United’s play early on in MLS has matched the work they put in off the pitch. Construction delays will prevent MLS expansion club Atlanta United from moving into Mercedes-Benz Stadium in July as planned, the team announced on Tuesday.
United had been scheduled to open the sparkling $1.6 billion, 71,000-seat venue it will share with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons on July 30 against Orlando City. That match will now be played a day earlier at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd Stadium, where United has hosted its first two MLS games.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium will instead now open with an NFL…

Tim Howard will not be able to play in Saturday’s game for the Rapids.
Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard has been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount for profane language directed toward a fan during a 3-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City and an altercation with a fan following the match.
Howard was also involved in a heated conversation with SKC forward Dom Dwyer after the final whistle, and exchanged expletives with some in the home crowd late in the match.
The 38-year-old had been in line to start on Saturday night when the Rapids host…

ESPN’s Bob Ley speaks with U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati about the decision to make a joint bid for the 2026 World Cup.

The FC panel examine the arguments for and against a joint 2026 World Cup bid from the U.S. perspective. United States national team coach Bruce Arena believes the U.S. can win the 2026 World Cup if it is selected by FIFA to co-host the tournament alongside North American neighbors Canada and Mexico.
The three nations formally announced on Monday their decision to jointly bid for the competition. A final decision from FIFA could come as early as next year. If the pitch is successful, it would mark the first time the region has staged the world’s biggest sporting event since the U.S. hosted it in 1994.
And…

The FC panel examine the arguments for and against a joint 2026 World Cup bid from the U.S. perspective.

Back in February, United States coach Bruce Arena told ESPN FC that with World Cup qualifying in full swing, he wasn’t looking to introduce many new faces into the American squad.

“We’re trying to cut it down, not add to it,” Arena said at the time.

That approach figures to remain in place when the U.S. reconvenes in suburban Denver at the end of next month to prepare for a June 3 friendly against Venezuela and two tough qualifiers against Trinidad and Tobago and in Mexico.

Depending on how…

Taylor Twellman joins SVP to share his thoughts on the 1-1 draw between the United States and Panama.

Craig Burley shares his dissatisfaction with FIFA’s 48-team World Cup proposal, which would increase CONCACAF’s allocation from 3.5 to six teams. CONCACAF is finalizing plans for a new competition among its national teams, including the U.S. and Mexico, to replace international friendlies, according to FIFA vice president Victor Montagliani.
In an interview with Reuters, Montagliani, who is also the president of CONCACAF — which governs the sport in North and Central America and the Caribbean — and the Canadian Soccer Association, confirmed the so-called “nations league” format would effectively eliminate friendly matches even for the region’s…

Cyle Larin breaks down what motivates him as a player, and what it’s like playing with Kaka.

For Orlando City coach Jason Kreis, Sunday’s match against the New York Red Bulls represents a chance to get back into the win column after last week’s 2-0 loss in Columbus.

“It’s our first opportunity to show what kind of reaction we have as a team and how much it means to us to get results, especially at home,” Kreis, whose Lions started the season with two victories, said in phone interview with ESPN FC. “I’m confident that’s going to happen.”

Jesse Marsch, Kreis’ counterpart in New York…
