Santos’ 3-2 win over Monterrey was made more impressive by Djaniny’s absence.

MEXICO CITY, Mexico — Nearly two-thirds of the way through the Liga MX season, there’s finally a bit of clarity as to who the contenders are for this season’s championship. The top five teams in the league table picked up a win last weekend, important when you consider that the next-ranked winner was Cruz Azul, who are 14th after Matchday 11.

On the other hand, teams like Monterrey and Pumas are fading fast after hot starts. In their last five games, the Rayados have won just once while UNAM…

Djaniny Tavares scored again in Santos Laguna’s 2-01 win over Necaxa.

MEXICO CITY — Following last weekend’s Clasico, the short-lived idea of Club America stamping its authority on its biggest rival and coming out of the weekend as Liga MX’s top team faded. Following its 1-1 draw at the Estadio Akron, not only did Miguel Herrera’s team miss out on the chance to beat Chivas, but it also dropped out of the league’s first-place spot, ceding it to a surging Santos Laguna team, who now sits atop Mexico’s top division.

After 10 games, parity is the name of the game….

MEXICO CITY — Last season’s thrilling final between America and Tigres will have another take, but this time around what’s at stake is a first win in the 2017 Clausura for both clubs.
