Liga MX action returns to action following the international break and there are plenty of storylines as the 2018 Apertura begins the second half of the season. Here is what we’ll be watching:
Can Necaxa upset undefeated Cruz Azul?
Necaxa was one of the talking points of the first few weeks of the season, mainly due to Marcelo Michel Leano’s presence on the bench. The 31-year-old — a friend of Argentina legend Cesar Luis Menotti — had his team playing attacking football, was shaking journalists’…

Veracruz drama cure for crisis-ridden Chivas?
If one Liga MX club earned more ridiculousness points in the headlines stakes than Chivas’ sponsor-filled news conference this week, it was Veracruz, with Guillermo Vazquez resigning and the lid being lifted on the “double contracts” that exist at the club.
On Friday, the two sides square off at Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente. Veracruz’s incoming coach Juvenal Olmos will be taking charge for the first time, 11 years since his last coaching job, with the…

Coming off a Copa MX title, Necaxa have turned things over to 31-year-old Marcelo Michel Leano.
MEXICO CITY — Marcelo Michel Leano, Liga MX’s youngest manager, was not yet born when the league’s oldest boss, Puebla’s Enrique Meza, took his first team over in 1982. When Leano’s Necaxa and Meza’s Puebla square off this August, the match also will serve to pit two very distinct schools of thought within the Mexican game: experience versus youth.
For the Apertura 2018 campaign, three managers under 40 will serve on Liga MX benches. Queretaro’s Rafael Puente Jr. is 39, Gerardo Espinoza of Atlas…

Necaxa posted confirmation of the transfer on Twitter, writing: “Welcome, @G27Gullit To defend these colours,” while Cruz Azul tweeted to thank him for his service.
Pena’s move comes after ESPN Mexico reported that…

It was another great season for Tigres, who have won the Apertura three seasons in a row.

Thanks to a competition format that schedules two tournaments per year, Liga MX seasons can at times feel like a whirlwind.
