Bruce Arena says Clint Dempsey still a key player in U.S. national team setup

With Clint Dempsey one goal shy of tying Landon Donovan, Jordan Morris is excited to see him pursue the U.S. goal record.
SANDY, Utah — As Clint Dempsey closes in on Landon Donovan’s U.S. national team scoring record, manager Bruce Arena feels that the player still has plenty more to give both at club and international level.
“[Dempsey] has a bunch of good years still ahead of him,” said Arena a day before Saturday’s friendly against Venezuela. “With the national team, I think as we continue to surround him with good players, he’s still is a player that we believe can give us quality minutes and be an important player.”

MLS suspends Kyle Beckerman, two others for violent conduct

Nick Rimando stood strong in net for Real Salt Lake, but a deflected goal by Harry Shipp earned Seattle all three points. Real Salt Lake’s Kyle Beckerman was among three players suspended and fined by MLS on Thursday after violent conduct in last weekend’s games.
Beckerman tripped up his United States teammate Clint Dempsey with a hard swing of his trailing leg after intercepting a pass in the first minute of RSL’s loss to the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.
No foul was called for the tackle and play continued. Beckerman will miss this weekend’s match against Philadelphia.

The U.S. forward scored his first goal in four games for the Sounders in Sunday’s 3-0 win at the LA Galaxy, his first time finding the net since scoring four times with the national team in a pair of World Cup qualifiers last month.

A class action lawsuit filed by three youth clubs against the MLS Players Union, as well as players Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, and DeAndre Yedlin has been dismissed by order of the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division.
In dismissing the suit, the court ruled that it lacked personal jurisdiction over the MLSPU and specific jurisdiction over the players involved.
